• As a Battery System engineer, you are responsible for customer-relevant KPIs of your battery project, e.g. energy content, discharging and charging power performance, lifecycle performance and thermal behavior.
• We are covering the whole development phase from technical concept to series production and the whole validation scope from simulation to battery and vehicle level testing.
• You will be responsible to work and connect between major stakeholders (e.g. drivetrain and carline), risks and deliver measurable outcomes against project milestones.
• Objectives include High Voltage Battery System engineering and technical development, requirements management, supplier steering, internal coordination and alignment with relevant stakeholders as well as management reporting
System engineering and technical development
• Define and review technical concepts, develop and implement improvement measures focusing on energy, thermal and reliability system related topics
• Align System related specifications with drivetrain, vehicle departments and other stakeholders
• Distribute system requirements to sub-systems and components (e.g. cell) and integrate into HW&SW functions to fulfill system target
• Monitor requirement fulfillment, steer failure/root-cause analysis
• Collaborate with related departments (China, Germany), align with other work packages, stakeholders, etc.
• Analyze and process battery and vehicle level test data
• Support project team for battery system related topics
Supplier steering
• Steer relevant suppliers and engineering service providers for the development
• Track and evaluate the work performed and the overall project process
• Lead regular communication between MB project team and suppliers
• Create necessary documentation for project work
Internal coordination and alignment
• Align the work scope and results at each relevant phase within RD China
• Work together with cross-functional departments, set up project milestones as well as coordinate activities to pursue tight time schedules
Reporting
• Prepare the necessary materials to report the Energy System development status as well as the status of specific topics at RD China internal reviews as well as other management committees within Mercedes-Benz
• Align and present the materials to all relevant parties
Education
Master or Bachelor in electrical, automotive engineering or equivalent fields
Experience
5+ years of OEM or supplier working experience in high voltage battery development
Specific knowledge
Fluent in written and spoken English; German beneficial
Profound knowledge and practical experience in automotive high voltage battery system
Experience in automotive industrial standard development process
Experience in supplier management
Derive system requirement with system-modeling
Derive and parametrize Battery system relevant algorithms from a given electro-chemical hardware
Solid knowledge in Matlab/Simulink and Python desirable
Experience in MS office package, modern project management tools (e.g. confluence) and failure management tools (e.g. Jira) desirable
Clear and effective communication skills, and enjoy collaborative problem solving plus the ability to speak and write effectively at all organizational levels
Teamwork spirit with good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
Self-responsibility work attitude and willingness to take the ownership
