EHS Manager

2. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
•Bachelor’s degree or above in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or related fields.
3. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
•Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible EHS experience in a semiconductor, chemical, or advanced manufacturing environment, with at least 4 years in an EHS management or senior EHS engineering role with direct site-level accountability.
•Demonstrated, in-depth experience managing EHS in a semiconductor fab environment is highly preferred. Candidates from specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, aerospace, or other high-hazard manufacturing environments with a directly transferable chemical hazard profile will also be considered.
•Proven expertise managing the specific chemical hazard classes present in a MEMS fab, with demonstrated hands-on experience in at minimum five of the following areas:
-HF (aqueous and anhydrous): hazard program development, first-aid training program management, calcium gluconate protocol implementation, and HFV system EHS infrastructure specification.
-Pyrophoric gas systems (SiH4, TMA, B2H6): gas cabinet design review, pyrophoric fire incident investigation or drill execution, and TGM alarm setpoint rationale development.
-Toxic hydride gases (PH3, AsH3): IH exposure monitoring program, IDLH-level emergency response procedure development, and SAR/SCBA program management.
-Halogenated etch gases and greenhouse gases (SF6, NF3, Cl2, HBr): abatement system performance verification, GWP emission inventory, and regulatory reporting.
-Wet chemistry bays (SPM, BOE, RCA chemistry): wet bench chemical zoning review, drain compatibility assessment, and spill response procedure development.
-Plasma etch and CVD tool chemical safety reviews: PHA/HAZOP participation, exhaust abatement specification, and tool installation PSSR sign-off.
•Demonstrated experience with EHS regulatory compliance in a semiconductor or high-hazard manufacturing context, specifically including interaction with regulatory agencies during inspections, permit applications, or compliance negotiations.
•Proven experience leading EHS programs during a facility build-out, new tool installation campaign, or major production ramp — including chemical approval workflows, PSSR processes, and contractor safety management at elevated contractor density.
•Demonstrated experience building and leading an EHS team from scratch or significantly growing an existing EHS organization.
•Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 certification processes, either as lead auditor or as the responsible manager for a certified site.
•Experience with emergency response team establishment, training, and drill execution for toxic gas and chemical release scenarios is strongly preferred.
•Familiarity with SEMI standards relevant to semiconductor equipment and facility safety (SEMI S2, S6, S8, S10, S14, S22, S23) is expected; candidates who have used these standards as EHS review tools during tool procurement and installation will be given preference.

•Deep, working knowledge of the complete chemical hazard portfolio of a semiconductor fab, including the toxicology, physical chemistry, regulatory classification, engineering control requirements, and emergency response procedures
Regulatory & Compliance Skills
•Strong working knowledge of the environmental and occupational safety regulatory framework applicable to semiconductor manufacturing
Leadership & Management Skills
•Proven ability to lead and develop an EHS team in a technically sophisticated manufacturing environment, setting high performance standards while building engagement and technical capability within the team.
•Strong management presence and credibility with engineering and operations leadership; able to influence EHS behavior and decision-making at all organizational levels through technical authority, relationship building, and clear communication of risk — without always relying on positional authority or regulatory mandate.
•Demonstrated ability to balance the competing demands of a startup environment — where speed of installation and production ramp are under intense pressure — with non-negotiable EHS standards, advocating effectively for the resources, time, and controls required to operate safely.
•Experience managing EHS department budgets, capital project requests for safety infrastructure, and the business case development required to secure leadership investment in EHS improvement programs.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear regulatory submissions, internal EHS policy documents, incident investigation reports, and executive-level EHS performance presentations.
Emergency Response & Crisis Management Skills
•Demonstrated experience leading or managing emergency response to real or simulated semiconductor fab chemical incidents, including toxic gas releases, pyrophoric fires, and acid spill events.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
•Must be fully comfortable working in a cleanroom environment (Class 10-1000 / ISO 4-6) and in sub-fab areas housing chemical distribution systems, gas cabinets, exhaust and abatement equipment, and utility infrastructure.
•Must be available on-call for EHS emergencies, significant incidents, or regulatory events at any hour; the 24/7 nature of semiconductor fab operations means that EHS incidents do not occur only during business hours.
•Periodic travel to regulatory agency offices, corporate EHS functions, industry EHS conferences (SEMI EHS Forum, ASSE/ASSP), and contractor or supplier sites may be required.
