Commodity Manager – Mechanical (Plastics,
Metals, PCBs)
Summary:
The Commodity Manager is a cross-functional
leader responsible for the strategic sourcing and supply chain performance of
key mechanical commodities, including plastics, metals, and printed circuit
boards (PCBs). This role combines deep technical knowledge with strategic
procurement capabilities to ensure optimized cost, quality, and delivery
performance. The Technical Commodity Manager will lead sourcing strategies,
vendor selection, contract negotiation, product lifecycle cost management, and
supplier development while supporting engineering, manufacturing, and quality
initiatives.
Qualifications
1. Preferred Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical
Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering,
or a related technical field or expertise and experience in these areas.
• 10+ years of combined experience in
commodity management, sourcing, or supplier engineering for mechanical or
electro-mechanical components.
• Experience with high-mix, low- to
medium-volume manufacturing environments (medical, industrial, or electronics
preferred).
2. Technical Knowledge
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing and
inspection processes for plastics, metals, and PCBs.
• Familiarity with engineering drawings,
GD&T, CAD models, and specification compliance.
• Understanding of IPC-A-600/610/620,
J-STD-001, RoHS/REACH, and industry-specific
regulations. Supply Chain Skills
• Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP,
Oracle, Epicor), supplier portals, and sourcing tools.
• Deep experience with cost modeling,
quoting, and supplier financial health analysis.
• Strong negotiation, contract drafting,
and risk mitigation skills.
Soft Skills
• Excellent analytical, communication, and
interpersonal skills.
• Capable of working independently in a
fast-paced, matrixed environment.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional
initiatives and manage supplier relationships across regions.
