Overview
The Coal Analyst is responsible for conducting in-depth analysis of global and regional coal market trends, pricing dynamics, production volumes, and consumption patterns.
By leveraging data-driven insights, this role evaluates supply and demand fluctuations, geopolitical influences, and regulatory policies impacting the coal industry. The analyst provides actionable intelligence to support strategic business decisions, ensuring the company remains competitive and responsive to market shifts.
The Coal Analyst works closely with Commercial Team based in Shanghai and Global Analytics Team based in UAE, and reports to Analytics Manager based in Shanghai.
Job Responsibilities
•Conduct research on the China coal market independently.
•Arrange for collection, systematization and analysis of data required to prepare regular and special analytical materials, reports and presentations on the China coal market.
•Prepare reporting, reference and presentation materials on the China coal market and the Company’s position in it
•Provide timely information support to the Commercial team within their remit.
•Provide high-skilled and prompt advisory and methodological support to the Company Subsidiaries associated with marketing information provision, including insights on the market of coal and other commodities of interest to the Company.
•Adhere to and document control procedures established by the Company’s local regulations.
•Keep documents related to the performance of control procedures for the specific required time.
•Inform the Line Manager of the necessity to make changes to control procedures.
•Development and optimize regular periodical reports (weekly, monthly) and prepare presentations for internal uses
•Development and maintenance of coal market models, including pricing models, to assist the freight and trading desks.
•Internal and external engagement (including ASHON and overseas offices) to improve data collection and data integrity, including consolidating all data and becoming the gatekeeper for S&D and pricing forecasts.
• Maintain and develop the Supply and Demand analysis and forecast for the China Coal market.
•Any other duties assigned by the Company from time to time.
Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Economics
• Self-starter skills, ownership, can-do attitude, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, negotiation skills (including active cross-functional interaction), strong information processing skills
• Advanced computer skills (including writing models of information processing and forecasting), experience of work with KPLER/AIS Data
• English language – upper-intermediate or higher
• Minimum 3-year relevant track-record work experience with major companies in the industry
• At least 2 years of experience as a market analyst in an international coal mining or power producing company, trading company, or analytical agency covering those industries.
