The United States alone, which is by no means the world’s largestconsumer of coffee, has more than 105 million coffee drinkers. Few commodities in the world can even comeclose to rivaling coffee for its global appeal. The worldwide proliferation of coffee drinkers and the industry’s everincreasing revenues are evidence that coffee has become “the global beverage ofchoice.”

Since its inception in the late fifties, the Bunn-O-MaticCorporation has been a dominant player in the coffee industry. Across NorthAmerica and in many parts of the world, the brewing equipment most synonymouswith the wonderful aroma and taste of freshly brewed coffee carries the name“BUNN.”

The Company

In 1958, George Bunn, the founder of Bunn-O-MaticCorporation, began experimenting in his kitchen on a better way to makecoffee. When his work proved thefeasibility of using paper filters instead of cloth to produce a sediment-free,quality cup of coffee, he set out to build a better coffee brewer.

The early BUNN brewers utilized conical shaped funnelsand filters using paper which permitted users to throw away the used filter andavoid cleaning cloth filters for re-use. A tank full of hot water was incorporated into these brewers permittingtwelve cups of coffee to be brewed in less than four minutes. Other early innovations included timers andflow controls for automatic operation of the brewer. A special spray head was developed to evenlydistribute the hot water over the coffee grounds to ensure the consistency ofthe brewing process. The brewers weresold under the name “Bunn-O-Matic”. Thesuccessful introduction of these brewers led to the incorporation of thecompany as Bunn-O-Matic Corporation in 1963.

BUNN coffee brewers have gained wide acceptance and arenow found where ever fine coffee is brewed, such as the well-known chains likeMcDonald’s, Hardee’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbuck’s, 7-11 and BP. Today, under the leadership of Hy Bunn,Chairman and CEO, Bunn-O-Matic Corporation manufactures and distributes acomplete line of coffee brewers, tea brewers, grinders, hot drink machines,frozen and cold drink dispensers, hot water machines, water conditioningsystems and other beverage equipment.
