Job objective:
Planning, executing, and supporting Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) testing activities on dyno test benches and semi anechoic chambers. The role includes test preparation, operation, data evaluation, equipment coordination, troubleshooting support, and cross-functional collaboration. The engineer also contributes to facility maintenance coordination, equipment management, and process compliance, ensuring smooth and efficient testing operations so that our vehicles fulfill the Mercedes-Benz standards regarding overall vehicle NVH, Aero and Sound performance for the Chinese customer. Support in NVH testing activities on PG and management drives.
Task description:
NVH Test Operations
• Perform AVL dyno operation, including setup, execution, and monitoring of tests.
• Conduct test preparation, test implementation, and data evaluation activities.
• Support NVH semi anechoic chamber test activities.
• Participate in standard NVH test execution (PT NVH, ISO, eATS).
Troubleshooting & Test Bench Support
• Support troubleshooting of dyno test benches and equipment.
• Coordinate chamber troubleshooting, acting as the interface between internal teams, maintenance, and suppliers.
• Escalate technical issues and follow through on resolution with maintenance teams
Facility & Equipment Coordination
• Coordinate NVH facility maintenance across monthly, quarterly, and yearly intervals (Dyno, Chamber, Lifter, Tools).
• Manage inbound and outbound equipment flow and inventory checks.
• Support HW/SW maintenance activities related to Siemens, Head, BBM systems, including maintenance scheduling and strategy.
• Manage equipment and consumable purchase, repair, and extensions.
Process & Compliance
• Maintain and improve audit-related processes and work instructions.
• Ensure compliance with EHS processes and participate in EHS-related activities.
Test Demand & Order Management
• Support test demand management and coordination using meetings, Excel, and TLP tools.
• Align with project teams and internal stakeholders on test requirements.
• Plan and prepare the required vehicles, parts and resources.
Cross-functional Collaboration
• Collaborate with internal partners (RDVV, RDVT, RD/VFT, TCC colleagues).
• Coordinate with external suppliers for measurement equipment and service support.
Business Coordination (BC) Responsibilities
• Support evaluation, training planning, and leave alignment for BC staff.
• Contribute to creation and maintenance of work instructions.
• Coordinate tests on test benches and test facilities of GRC and 3rd parties.
Plan and conduct NVH/Aero/Sound testing in China
• Conduct NVH/Aero/Sound tests according to Mercedes-Benz standards and customer satisfaction.
• Organize evaluation drives and management drives.
• Create test reports.
Education
University degree in
acoustic/mechanical/automotive engineering
mechanical/mechatronics/electrical engineering (with test bench focus)
or similar engineering qualifications
Experience
• Working experience at OEMs or suppliers for NVH lab and testing preferred.
• Experience with NVH testing, dyno operation (fixation, equipping, run-ups, …) and NVH chamber operation (shaker, impact hammer, sound sources, …), and similar test bench environments
• Experience with measurement equipment handling (microphone, sensors, frontends, …)
• Familiarity with vehicle development process is an advantage.
• Experience in pass-by-noise measurements is an advantage.
• Familiarity with the China automotive supplier landscape and ecosystem is an advantage.
• Longer stay in Germany or abroad (business or education) is helpful.
Specific Knowledge
• Proficiency in using HW/SW systems (NVH/Aero/Sound) as well as measurement and analysis software suites (e.g., PAK, Test.Lab, Artemis, …) including the NVH data processing.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to coordinate with technical teams.
• Familiarity with EHS and audit process compliance.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and manage supplier interfaces (including blue collars and testing engineers).
• Good documentation and process discipline.
• Basic knowledge of NVH, sound and aero-acoustic concepts is helpful.
• Capability to evaluate test vehicles regarding NVH, Aero and sound behaviour (both in an objective and a subjective manner) under all conditions.
• Conduct vehicle-level testing and validation (on test benches and proving grounds) to identify and resolve integration issues.
• Experience with specific powertrain technologies (e.g., hybrid electric vehicles, battery electric vehicles, range extender vehicles, combustion engine vehicles) is helpful.
