Piping Material Engineer

Position Overview:
The Piping Material Engineer will be responsible
for the specification, selection, and procurement of piping materials for oil
and gas projects. This role requires a deep understanding of material
properties, industry standards, and project requirements to ensure that all
materials used in piping systems are appropriate for the application. The
Piping Material Engineer will work closely with the piping design team,
procurement, and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials that meet
project specifications and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Selection & Specification:
1. Develop and maintain piping material specifications, ensuring compliance
with project requirements and industry standards (ASME, API, ANSI, etc.).
Select appropriate piping materials for various processes, considering factors
such as pressure, temperature, corrosion, and fluid characteristics.
Ensure all piping materials conform to design and safety standards, including
material compatibility and durability under operating conditions.
Piping Class Development:
2. Develop and maintain piping classes and material take-offs (MTOs) based on
project specifications.
Work with piping design and stress analysis teams to ensure piping materials
meet the requirements for pressure and temperature ratings.
Vendor & Procurement Support:
3. Evaluate and approve material suppliers and vendors, ensuring that they meet
project quality and delivery standards.
Prepare and review technical specifications for material procurement, including
bid evaluations and technical clarifications with suppliers.
Provide technical support to the procurement team during the material
procurement process to ensure timely delivery of materials.
Quality Assurance:
4. Review and approve vendor material certificates and test reports to
ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
Oversee the inspection and testing of piping materials to verify quality and
adherence to project requirements.
Documentation & Compliance:
5. Maintain up-to-date records of piping materials, including specifications,
datasheets, and procurement documentation.
Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations related to piping
materials and their use in oil and gas systems.
Collaboration:
6. Work closely with piping designers, process engineers, and construction
teams to ensure material compatibility with the overall system design.
Provide technical guidance on material issues and contribute to resolving
material-related problems in construction and commissioning phases.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical
Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in piping material engineering, preferably in the oil and
gas industry.
Experience with material selection, specification, and procurement for
large-scale projects.
Certifications: Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (ASME,
API, ANSI) is required.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of piping material properties, including corrosion resistance,
mechanical properties, and durability.
Proficiency in piping material specifications, piping classes, and MTO
development.
Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly regarding material-related
issues in design and construction.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and engineering
software tools.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with vendors,
procurement teams, and engineering teams.
Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.
