The Group was founded in 1996 by current Group CEO Nick Jones, and has grown through a combination of organic growth and acquisition. The business was formed as Redfern International Logistics Ltd in 1996, and following the acquisition of Dolphin Logistics in 2008, the Group was rebranded as Ligentia.

The Ligentia name derives from the Latin word "Ligeantia" or "Liege" meaning trusted partner, and the decision to rebrand two companies both with long established histories was made to emphasise our core value of trust and partnerships, with customers, colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders.
